Ben Sharp is the one-man machine that comprises the band Cloudkicker. While he has been making music since 2005, his popularity has only grown since then. Sharp produces an incredible combination of metal, ambient, post-rock, and experimental music that is unprecedented and unique.
His releases are reminiscent of artists as disparate as Meshuggah and God is an Astronaut. Most people would not expect to see bands like that in the same sentence, and they’re right. This is precisely what makes Cloudkicker’s music so profound. Sharp adds progressive layers of sound as his songs are constructed, increasing the depth and complexity his music is known for. I have never heard music like his before and it’s influenced me to a profound degree.
Ben Sharp went on one tour as Cloudkicker with Intronaut as his backing band in 2014. Most, if not all of the shows were sold out, and to raving fans I might add. I’m extremely grateful I got the chance to see him! He and the band did an INCREDIBLE job and my only wish is that it would happen again. Knock on wood.
The band Cloudkicker is also a phenomenal example of how Internet decentralization can provide any creative person a platform for success. Sharp releases his music on Bandcamp, always free of charge.
