As soon as Austin started showing us the riffs for Find the Cure, I was instantly hooked. The upbeat pace of the song and bright melodies instantly made me think of personal triumph and working hard towards your goals.
Find the Cure is a patently riff-centric song. Austin has said before that he will “make random sounds until something cool sticks” and I think FTC is a good example of this. 🙂 And yet somehow, FTC flows effortlessly, giving the listener a lot to chew on.
There are breakdown-y moments, inspiring moments, and bridges all wrapped up into one tune. The melodies and harmonies provided by Adam’s and Jordan’s work create a beacon of sound. These thoroughly structured sounds create mental images of togetherness and fighting negative societal forces.
LYRICS
Dane tends to write lyrics that are open to interpretation and I appreciate his artistry in this regard. It’s funny; when we first posted a teaser of FTC, it was smack-dab in the middle of COVID. In the Insta post, Dane wrote “we know what you’re thinking, it’s not COVID-related” and I got a good chuckle or two out of this.
It’s true; Find the Cure is NOT about COVID, and thank God. 🙂 When I read Dane’s lyrics for FTC, it makes me think about wrongs that need to be righted in this world. He has a lyric “now is the time to change” and to me, this is the best snippet of the song.
Finding the cure is about making an honest assessment of your life and the world you live in, and deciding what will be done about it. This song represents action in your life–not only to protect yourself against those who would knock you out, but as a source of strength and encouragement for others.
